The Barber meets jazz

“As a regular costumer, I often sit in the long wooden bench to wait for my turn at the Barber Pole. I stare at the mahogany desk they use as the cashier’s spot. I observe their mirrors framed with carved wood. I look at their pictures, usually music-related, and collected items.
The Barber Pole has a strong personality and while I was ideating for the illustration, I thought of jazz.”
I’ve always found that images and music have a very unique relationship. In this project I immersed myself in the world of jazz to create smarter decisions when it came to choosing colors, shape language and even how I depicted the characters.
Process
Color Palette
I chose colors that are elegant, vibrant and reflect the mellow notes of jazz music, while merging these elements seamlessly with the personality of the Barber Pole.
